The carcass or known as support frame is the main support structure of a kitchen cabinet. The kitchen cabinet’s frame takes much portion of your budget as it is the main part of your cabinet while it also a determinant of good quality and durable cabinet.

Melamine Chipboard

In Malaysia, melamine chipboard carcass is most affordable and commonly used in the market. Basically, it is a chipboard cover with melamine finishing. Most of the contractors will use this material if you demand cheap price or price discount as people usually won’t care about the carcass as it is inner part and also people didn’t have much knowledge to distinguish it. It comes with a range of colors but usually makes in white color to standardize production. For example, IKEA’s kitchen cabinet main material is Melamine Chipboard.

Besides of pricing, the advantage of melamine chipboard is resistant to scratch and abrasion. But the cons are easy to swell up and expand when contact with water. Therefore, it is not suitable for basin area.

Laminate Plywood

Similar to melamine chipboard, laminate plywood is basically plywood board cover by plastic layer but it made by more layers of resin impregnated paper with plastic-coated finishing, therefore it is more solid and resistant to scratch and abrasion compared to melamine chipboard. Besides, it comes with more colors and patterns allow more choices and makes you a unique kitchen cabinet. But it is more expensive than melamine chipboard as its manufacture process take more time and cost.

Blockboard is made by many of softwoods strips side by side and glued with a layer of melamine. Blockboard is lighter and more water-resistant compare to chipboard and it recommends used for the area underneath the basin.

Wood Veneer Plywood

If you looking for natural wood appearance, wood veneer plywood is the option beside solid wood. It is cheaper than solid wood and has solid wood nature appearance as it is a plywood board covey by a layer of real wood stripped from timber log. The cons are more expensive than other option besides solid wood and can easy to expand in high humidity area over time.
